Installation of a photovoltaic system on carport canopies

Palermo

THE PROJECT

The project carried out at the Olimpo Center in Palermo represents a significant investment in the site’s sustainability and energy self-sufficiency.

The project involved the construction of a photovoltaic system on carport canopies with an installed capacity of 214.5 kWp, designed to make the most of the available space and transform parking areas into a source of renewable energy.

The plant is expected to generate approximately 257,400 kWh annually, contributing significantly to reducing energy consumption from the grid and advancing the facility’s decarbonization efforts.

THE CHALLENGE

The project required careful management of technical and design complexities, which were addressed through constant coordination among all parties involved.

Particular attention was paid to the structural aspects of the shelters, which required optimization and adaptation to ensure the system’s full integration and compliance with performance standards.

During the project development phase, the plant layout was refined to integrate next-generation photovoltaic modules onto existing surfaces that could not be modified. This required significant engineering work aimed at maximizing installed capacity while making the best use of the available space.

The project was completed using specialized technical solutions, including the optimization of support systems and the leveling of surfaces, ensuring the stability, efficiency, and overall performance of the facility.

For us, this project has significance that goes beyond the energy aspect, because it represents a new step in the cooperative’s growth and reaffirms our commitment to continuing to invest in the future of the Olimpo Center, making it more efficient, more sustainable, and increasingly rooted in the local community.

“The project carried out at the Olimpo Center demonstrates how the energy transition can become a concrete and measurable process, capable of making the most of available spaces, reducing grid consumption, and generating environmental benefits within an organization that—as Camillo de Berardinis, former CEO of Cooperazione Finanza Impresa, also pointed out—already has a significant track record of revitalization and success in the areas of entrepreneurship, employment, and social impact.”
