480 kWe trigeneration plant

Padova

THE PROJECT

Samso Spa supported the Abano Terme Nursing Home in adopting a high-efficiency trigeneration system, installing a plant capable of simultaneously producing electricity, heat and cooling. The project involved the integration of a 480 kWe cogenerator and a 460 kWf absorber, connected to the main energy users of the facility.

The plant produces 3,635,000 kWh of electricity, 2,283,000 kWh of thermal energy and 1,351,000 kWh of cooling energy annually, significantly reducing the factory’s energy requirements. The solution developed by Samso enables the facility to achieve continuous energy efficiency, reduced consumption and operational autonomy without any initial investment.

THE CHALLENGE

The healthcare facility wanted to reduce energy costs — amounting to approximately €1 million per year — without interrupting critical activities such as wards, operating theatres and hospital rooms. The goal was to reduce dependence on the electricity grid, optimise natural gas consumption and introduce a sustainable and reliable model in the long term.

The main challenge was to integrate a high-power system into a hospital complex with high energy consumption. The intervention transformed the nursing home into a model of energy self-production, covering 73% of its electricity demand and reducing its overall energy requirements by 20%, with a positive and measurable impact on the environment and the sustainability of the facility.

Focusing on self-production of energy is now the priority choice for many companies. It reduces environmental impact and allows them to exploit the renewable energy produced by the plants for many years.
